RUNNING SHOES - YOUR MOST IMPORTANT  FITNESS APPARATUS

Getting into fitness is an exciting adventure and it is easy to get carried away and over zealous.  My number one suggestion for anyone just starting out is to take things slow for the first week and build up gradually as you learn how your body will respond to exercise.  Always give your body enough time to rest, especially in the beginning because it is during this time of rest that your body with repair and rebuild itself stronger than before.

Whether you are just starting out or you are a seasoned veteran, quality, supportive foot ware is key to the longevity and enjoyment of your training program.  Improper shoes can make your workout painful not only by causing blisters, but by not providing the support and cushioning you need especially for aerobic type exercises where there is a great deal of impact on your joints and strain on your un-agile tendons and ligaments that are probably in shock by your decision to be more active.

When picking an athletic shoe take into consideration what you plan to do with them.  As most of my personal training clients also run along side with their weight training I usually recommend running shoes.  Running shoes have a great amount of cushioning in the heal than cross trainers.  When trying on your shoe your toe should not hit the tip of your shoe.  Leave at least an inch and the tip for your toes to stretch out and allow for swelling once you get running and your feet become hot.

There are different types of support depending on if you are a pronator (feet turn --) or a supinator  (feet turn --).

I always jog around the store in the shoes before I buy them to get an idea of how they feel when I am in motion.  Once I get them home.  I usually do my first work out in the gym with them verses out side so that I can keep them clean and return them to the store if they cause me any problems.

A good quality shoe can be an investment.  but if you have nothing else.  This is the number one fitness apparatus I recommend that will assist in the longevity and enjoyment of your workout program.

Happy Training.
